I had a once in a lifetime opportunity in August 2014 to assist nationally known river photographer Gregory Thorp on a photo shoot aboard the towboat Larry Y. Strain pushing 15 barges and locking through the Markland Locks just down river from Cincinnati. I was able to eat with the crew and had full access to the vessel. Here are some of my better photos that document the journey.
So proud of my brother, Larry Y. Strain.
He was so honored to have this motor vessel named for him. Such a young man at the time this happened-- just past 40 years old. He died just 6 years later of a heart attack.
The photographs reflect the power of the vessel, and the memory of the man.
So glad to see it is still on the river, a place he truly loved.
The guestbook is empty.
